The founding president of Local 9537, Ivan died October 11 at his home, with his family by his side.
- 18 November 2010 Let's Support D6 Strikers Kudos and thanks go to USW locals that have provided moral and financial support to our District 6 Sisters and Brothers from nine different bargaining units who are currently walking picket lines.
- 18 November 2010 New USW Lobbying Project Will Benefit Working Families Ramping up our lobbying to establish anti-scab legislation in every province will be one of the priorities of a new political action initiative to be launched across District 6. This project will create USW political action teams in each province of our district. Each team will consist of union members who will be trained to effectively lobby government and opposition politicians.
- 18 November 2010 Over 1,000 Queen’s University Staff Employees Poised to Join USW Family Optimism reigns among hundreds of Queen’s University employees hoping to become the newest members of the United Steelworkers. If the fledgling Queen’s University Staff Union-USW is certified, over 1,000 support staff employees will be welcomed to the Steelworkers family. It will mark a successful ending to a great story that began in 2008 with Queen’s employees looking for union representation and ultimately selecting the USW as their preferred choice.
- 18 November 2010 Rally Salutes Courage and Character of Brantford Steelworkers Hundreds of Steelworkers and other supporters held three days of rallies in Brantford in mid-September, drawing widespread media and political attention to a two-year strike by USW Local 1-500 members. The September 15-17 rallies provided a major boost to the 84 courageous Steelworkers who for 26 months have resisted outrageous concession demands – 25-per-cent clawbacks in wages and benefits – from their employer, Engineered Coated Products (ECP).
- 18 November 2010 Steelworkers Reject Assault on Working Families’ Incomes Director Fraser and several other USW representatives served notice that our union has no interest whatsoever in the Liberals’ proposal for a two-year wage freeze on public-sector workers. The Liberal plan is an assault on USW members who work in universities, hospitals, long-term-care facilities and occupational disease clinics, in addiction treatment and as paramedics, among other jobs.

- 10 June 2009 Canada needs FAIR trade and we need it now! The Myth of Unprotected Free Trade… We keep hearing about the new global market and how Canadians need to be more flexible, innovative and efficient in order to compete. The proponents of this unregulated market are quick to point to the Canadian worker and to the unions that represent them as being the barrier to Canada’s ability to compete in this market.
- 10 June 2009 Fighting Back Matters - By Wayne Fraser For months we have been telling our Provincial and Federal Governments that working families and Canadian jobs need protection, to no avail. In the past six months, Canada has lost 356,500 jobs. Ontario has been hit the hardest, losing 18.1% of the manufacturing base, yet our pleas continue to fall on deaf ears. The numbers are astronomical. Every day more and more workers and their families are losing their incomes.
- 10 June 2009 The 'Buy America' Dilemma As Canadians we need to understand that our industry is tightly intertwined with the American market. And I admit that I have watched partially in awe and partially in fear as the Buy American sentiment continues to grow across the border. I share their concern about offshore products being dumped onto our shores and destroying sectors like manufacturing.
