There was a motion passed in our November membership meeting to throw a Christmas party for our kids. We called it the "Kids of Steel." We delegated a few members to organize this event for the kids.
We turned the board room into the activity room where the kids put puzzles together, decorated their own cupcakes that a member's wife baked for them, made snowflake ornaments, and decorated traditional bulb style ornaments to hang on "Santa's Tree."
Our admin assistant brought an old tree to the office, it was pretty bare until the kids made it look beautiful with their works of art on it at the end. Another member volunteered to be Santa he fit the part the best. Once he put the costume on, he was good to go though. He went right into character and enjoyed being Santa. In the end, he was called "Rockin Santa." My son needed to get in his community service hours for school so he had no problem dressing up as Santa's elf.
We had a pretty good turn out, I was the photographer taking pics of the kids on Santa's lap as his elf handed out candy bags that we put together before hand. It was 3 hours of fun for the kids and I think a good time was had by all. We ended up purchasing the Santa and elf costumes because it was pretty much the same as renting and we could use it again next year. Hopefully we can make this happen every year. I believe if we continue to grow our local the way we have been it shouldn't be a problem.
