Wood Council Sends Solidarity to USW Local 816's Picket Line for the Holidays

USW Local 816 members pn Texada Island, B.C. have been locked out by Lafarge since October.

The USW Wood Council came together last minute to support fellow Steelworkers during the holidays.

Story submitted by Marty Gibbons, USW Local 1-417 below:

I talked to the Wood Council locals in B.C. regarding support for our brothers and sisters locked out by Lafarge on Texada island.

Despite the late notice the response was amazing.  With the hopes of getting this money to the members on the picketline before Christmas all local unions committed to make out their donation cheque out right away. The donation will go to the picket committee and will distribute it on a need basis.

Below is a summary of the donations committed.

USW Local 424 - $500.00
USW Local 425 - $200.00
USW Local 1-417 - $500.00
USW Local 423 - $500.00
USW Local 405 - $300.00
USW Local 2009 - $500.00
USW Local 1939/85 - $1000.00

For a grand total of $3500.00

I have no doubt this amount will help the families affected by this lockout during the holiday season.
