On May 6, 2009, Stan Johnson was appointed Secretary-Treasurer by the International Executive Board replacing James English.
Stan Johnson began his career in 1975 career as a production worker for Pirelli Armstrong Tire Corporation in Madison, TN where he joined Local 670 of the United Rubber Workers International Union. As a member of Local 670, he held various local union positions and offices, including Vice-President and President. He also served on the Rubber Worker's International Executive Board.
After the URW’s 1995 merger with the USW, Stan served the union in Pittsburgh as National Rapid Response Coordinator. He then became the Director of the Dislocated Workers Program and Assistant to the International President. He relocated to Birmingham, AL in 1999 to serve as Assistant to the President for Special Projects. Returning to Pittsburgh in 2000, Stan served in the positions of Executive Assistant to the International President, Assistant to the International Secretary-Treasurer and Special Assistant to the International President for Organizing. He relocated to Cornelius, N.C. in early 2003 as Sub-District Director. He later moved to Birmingham, Ala., where he was subsequently appointed Assistant to the Director of District 9.
The USW executive board unanimously appointed Stan to the position of Director of District 9 in October 2006. He also chairs the Rayonier and Blue Ridge Councils and is the Secretary of the International Paper Council.
In addition to his extensive background with the USW and the URW, Stan earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the National Labor College. He also attended Volunteer State Community College and Nashville Vocational Technical College.
