A New Logo for a New Union

A New Logo for a New Union

Following months of consultation at every level, the International Executive Board has unanimously approved a new logo for our union.

When the United Steelworkers of America merged with the former PACE union, the name of the union was changed to the United Steel, Paper and Forestry, Rubber, Manufacturing, Energy, Allied Industrial and Service Workers International Union to reflect the diverse industries represented by the new union. The union will be commonly referred to as USW or United Steelworkers in both the U.S. and Canada.

The decision on the logo was made after a lengthy "branding" process that involved research on how existing and potential members view the union. The logo is intended to be standard across the union and a style guide is being made available outlining the use of colour, space and other factors relating to the use of the logo by districts, area councils and local unions. The guide can be found here on the union’s website ("Logos and Style Guide" under "Member Services" heading) and Local Unions can expect to receive a "USW Branding CD" from the International.

Printers and other vendors will need to be licensed by the International Union to use the logo. They can e-mail a request directly to branding@usw.org and they will be forwarded an agreement to sign before prior to sending the high-resolution graphics for printing. The International is literally receiving hundreds of requests from Canada and the United States, so encourage your vendors to be patient.

If local unions have questions about the new logo and internal usage, please direct those inquiries to ahudson@usw.org .
