Norma Berti Scholarship 2008 Information

To:        All Steelworker members
Re:        The Norma Berti Steelworker Education Scholarship

The Steelworkers’ District 6 Director, Wayne Fraser, is pleased to call for applications for our new Norma Berti Education Scholarship.

Director Fraser will award a scholarship of $1,000 to a Steelworkers’ son or daughter who has been selected and meets the following criteria:

The Scholarship recipient must be enrolled (September 2008) in a full-time course of study leading to a diploma, certificate or degree from any publicly recognized college or university.

The criterion for the selection of the scholarship winner is as follows:

  1. Evidence of enrollment in a publicly recognized college or university.
  2.  An essay must be submitted with not more than 1,000 words about one of the following:
  • A strong woman activist in our Union
  • The history of our Women of Steel program
  •  Groups or individual women who have contributed to the Steelworkers’ Union
  • Initiatives the Steelworkers have made for women


The deadline for receipt of applicant’s submission is June 30, 2008.  The winner will be announced by July 31, 2008.
