FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

WINNIPEG, MB- On Tuesday United Steelworkers Local 1-324 President Chris Parlow announced that union members have voted strongly in favour of ratifying a collective agreement with Perimeter Lumber, one of Western Canada’s largest wholesale lumber distribution yards.

The three-year agreement provides for wage increases averaging 2.5 per cent annually, combined with a bonus monthly attendance recognition program which can provide an additional $100.00 per month.

Other improvements include starting wage increases of $2.00 an hour, extended health and welfare coverage improvements, and other benefit plan enhancements.

“Steelworkers at this operation felt they were given a fair shake in this round of negotiations given the state of the forestry industry crisis,” comments Parlow. “As a result they voted over 90% in favour of the new agreement.”
