Toronto - I want to ask each of you to work with me to support the movement for a Coalition Government in Canada to help all working people deal with the global economic crises we are facing.

Canada is facing a global economic crisis. Steelworkers are worried about their jobs, their savings and their future. Many Canadians are concerned about their future. Right now, we need all of our political leaders to work together for the good of the economy and the country.

Unfortunately, Stephen Harper wants to put politics first. He has started a political campaign to divide Canadians and attack political leaders rather than work together for the good of the country. He has lost the support he needs to remain Prime Minister and even cancelled votes in Parliament to avoid defeat. I hope all Steelworkers and all Canadians will speak out.

Here is what I am asking each of you to do right now:

1) Contact your MP tell them you support a new Coalition Government. Go to the CLC website to get a direct link to send a message to your MP at : http://canadianlabour.ca/

• We don’t need an election right now. We need an alternative.
• We need our political leaders to work together and do whatever it takes to help us get through this economic crisis.

2) Attend a pro-Coalition rally in the city nearest to you. See attached for Rally locations and timings.

3) Write to your local newspaper, contact your favorite radio, use email lists – spread the word on this immediate opportunity to do something about the financial crisis facing Canadians. We don’t need an election right now. We need a real alternative. We need political leaders to work together and do whatever it takes to help us through this economic crisis.

We need to be very aware that the Conservatives are going all out against the Coalition. They are planning rallies, boosting their fundraising appeals and planning an advertising and communications blitz. We need to make our families, friends and co-workers aware of what is at stake - a real chance to do something now to take action against a recession in our country or let ourselves be saddled with more Conservative inaction.
