CLC RELEASE, 3 June 2010 - The Federation of Canadian Municipalities voted to support labour’s call for expanding CPP. Please act now to get the Finance Ministers onboard.
This past weekend, the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) overwhelmingly endorsed a call from the country's mayors to expand the Canada Pension Plan.
Local politicians get it. Expanding the CPP guarantees a higher retirement income for everyone. That means fewer seniors struggling to make ends meet, more income for local business, and a healthy future for communities.
Now we need to convince provincial, territorial and federal politicians to do the right thing. We have less than two weeks before Finance Ministers meet to talk about our country's pension crisis.

The hard work and campaigning by many union activists made last weekend's victory at the FCM possible. I can tell you that we're making progress with some provincial governments, but we're not there yet.
This week is critical. We need everyone to call their Finance Minister, send them a letter, a fax or an e-mail message telling them it's time to expand the CPP. We can't afford to wait.
Forward this message to the people you know. Tell them to visit canadianlabour.ca to see how much more they could get every year too.
After a lifetime of work, nobody in this country should have to face living their last years in poverty because they didn't have a workplace pension plan, or because their RRSPs didn't earn enough.
Let's make a difference. Let's win this campaign!
Ken Georgetti.
