Daniel Roy was born in Sept-Iles, Quebec in 1959.  A welder by trade, he was hired by Raymond Industries in 1976. He became president of his unit and then President of Amalgamated Local Union 7065, which had about 1,000 members at the time.  

In April 1991, he was hired as a Staff Representative for the area comprizing the North Shore, the lower St. Larence, the Gaspé Penninsula and the Magdalen Islands. He became Area Coordinator for this region in 1999. He was subsequently responsible for coordinating negotiations for the local unions in the iron industry in Quebec's North Shore.  He was appointed St-Jean Area Coordinator in 2004.  

In 2006, he was appointed assistant to the Director. 

Daniel Roy has two sons.
