A message from Wayne Fraser, Director of District 6
I am proud to announce the creation of the District 6 Women’s Information Network (WIN). WIN is network designed to assist in communicating with women activists throughout our District on issues of relevance to them.
Our Union has always been on the forefront of struggles for dignity, equity and respect. We have done so because it is the right thing to do and because of the wealth of women activists we have within our Union ensuring that their voices and their issues are heard. Our Women of Steel education, District 6 Women’s Committees and Sister activist’s are the very best in the labour movement. Simply put: strong unions need women and women need strong unions.
In the past few years our District has implemented a number of new initiatives designed to assist women within our ranks to get involved and help shape the direction of our Union. In 2003 we held the first ever women’s only organizing school and since then we have implemented "Designated Scholarships" for women only. These are but a short list of our recent achievements.
WIN is a powerful new tool for our District. We are excited about the possibility of reaching out to sisters across our district, providing information, educating and empowering them and engaging them in campaigns.
I would encourage all of our women activists to enroll for WIN using the directions below. Those who join WIN will get periodic information on upcoming women’s conferences, lobby efforts that pertain specifically to women’s issues and will get notified of any initiatives in our District that relate to women. It will also give our District 6 Women’s Committee and our various regional women’s committees and opportunity to share information on upcoming events and initiatives.
Come join the growing list of strong women activists who are engaged, involved and who make our Union the best it can be.
