About the Family and Community Education Fund
Through contributions from participating local unions, the USW FCEF supports a wide range of educational and community activities for members, our families, and our neighbours and allies.
The FCEF was created in 1989 with a mandate to provide educational programming aimed at Steelworker families, new and young activists, and our community partners. Contributing locals can apply for FCEF funding to host their own projects.
REQUESTS FOR PROJECTS UNDER $5,000 CAN BE SUBMITTED AT ANY TIME

Each summer, a number of paid internships are available in some USW offices for the children or grandchildren of members and retired members of the United Steelworkers.
USW Local Unions who contribute to the Family & Community Education Fund are encouraged to apply to the Fund with a proposal to hire one or more students in the summer of 2022.
A wonderful opportunity for children and grandchildren of USW members.
Is your local a contributor to the Family & Community Education Fund (FCEF) but stuck as to what events to host? Feeling too busy to brainstorm a project? We can help!
Connect with service agencies and labour organizations in your neighbourhood whose work inspires you. Ask them to plan and host community engagement events with your local!

After our June 11th deadline, the final large-scale submission date for 2021 is in the Fall. Reach out to Gabriele Simmons, the FCEF Fund Co-ordinator, for support with your application and/or to begin contributing to the Fund.
