International NextGen Conference
Save the dates for the first International NextGen Conference: November 18 to 22, 2019 in Pittsburgh, PA.
Next Generation is a program to inspire and educate young members of the United Steelworkers, providing opportunities for mentoring and leadership development, along with union and community activism. The United Steelworkers is North America’s largest industrial union, representing 200,000 active members in Canada and another 400,000 in the United States in all imaginable segments of the economy, including manufacturing, telecommunications, education, mining, paper, health care, forestry and so much more.
The USW has a proud history of standing up for workers both inside the workplace and in the larger community and economy. Next Generation honours our strong past, protects our present and aims to make our union vibrant, viable and relevant for the future by sparking a lifetime of union and community activism.

Mentoring is an essential tool for moving unions forward: It can help less experienced members and staff learn new leadership skills and how to navigate the political terrain of their union settings.
The international convention of the United Steelworkers passed this policy to support, train and mentor the next generation of trade union activists. Click to download.
We are excited to announce the launch of our second network, the District 3 NextGen Network. The NextGen Network was created to inspire and connect all of our young members (35 and under) from across Western Canada.
If you haven’t already, please register for our next event in the USW NextGen Committee web series happening tomorrow, when we welcome our panelists: Hamnah Shahid, Jared Ong, Nathan Allen and Maddi Genn.
The USW NextGen Committee is hosting three consecutive Tuesday events (starting tomorrow) to give a space for the incredible young members of our union to connect, share their experiences and have some fun!
The scholarship, established in honour of the legacy of Sudbury native and USW International President Emeritus Leo W. Gerard, is awarded to top students of Laurentian’s Workplace and Labour Studies program.
