Ways to Get Active in the Federal Election
From volunteering with your local campaign to signing up for election training - there are many ways to be engaged in this election! Here are just some of them:
Materials
- Order USW election materials – placards and flyers – and distribute to members and post them in your workplace.
- Order our new Steelworkers Vote hats and T-shirts – see the order form.
Spread the word
- Include information on your local NDP candidate and USW election issues in your newsletters and emails, and on your website, Facebook and social media. #USWVotes2021
Connect with your local NDP
- Invite your local NDP candidates to any USW in-person or virtual meetings or to greet members outside your workplace, following local COVID-19 safety protocols.
- While unions can’t donate directly to political parties at the federal level, we encourage our members to volunteer and make individual donations.
Support for your USW phone bank
- Set up a phone bank for members to call other members about the election.
- Request USW phone lists for ridings in your area.
- Talk about how your local NDP candidate is on the side of workers.
- Encourage early voting.
- Contact the USW National Office for more information and support with scripts and election phoning rules: vote@usw.ca.
Volunteer for local campaigns
- Recruit USW volunteers for local NDP campaigns. Campaigns need help phoning, canvassing, putting up signs and more. Follow local COVID-19 safety protocols.
Steelworkers Vote online schools
- Send members to our three-day Steelworkers Vote online course. USW local unions will be reimbursed for participant lost time. Apply at usw.ca/voteschool.
Encourage members to vote early.
