Pat Hinchey Scholarship 2022 (Atlantic Provinces)

Application deadline extended to July 31!

Steelworkers’ District 6 Director, Myles Sullivan, is pleased to call for applications for our Pat Hinchey Health and Safety Scholarship.

Director Sullivan has made available a $1,000 scholarship to the child of an Atlantic Steelworker in memory of Brother Pat Hinchey who was a true role model for future generations.

Pat Hinchey was a dedicated activist for over 30 years and wore many hats. He was the recording secretary for Local 5795 for 24 years, a full-time health and safety activist, a longtime member of the National Health and Safety Committee and a health and safety facilitator for the District 6 Education Program. One of his proudest accomplishments was bringing the Young Workers Awareness Program to high schools across the Atlantic Provinces to speak to students about their rights concerning health and safety.

Pat embodied the true nature of a union activist. His activism in the community gave a first-rate impression of our union and the labour movement. He was a proud member of the New Democratic Party and volunteered in every election since the early ‘70s.

“He is sadly missed but through this scholarship will never be forgotten.”
