The National Consultation Workshop for Aboriginal Steelworkers is an important event for our union. It marks the first time we are calling together members of Aboriginal ancestry to hear their stories about being a Steelworker. Gathering these stories is the first step in taking action.

At our 2013 National Policy Conference, delegates passed a resolution calling on us to document our experience and history representing the interests of Aboriginal members, including areas for improvement.

Hearing from Aboriginal Steelworkers about their union experience and your ideas and needs for the future will help us build a stronger union.

It will also help us build cooperative relationships and alliances with Aboriginal organizations, provincially and nationally.

USW is a diverse union. That diversity is a strength when we respect it and when we realize that treating everyone fairly doesn't always mean treating them the same.

Who should attend?

First and foremost, we're inviting Steelworkers of Aboriginal ancestry, meaning First Nations, Métis, Innu, Inuit, status and non‐status.

Local Unions! Help us with this important work by reaching out to and sending Aboriginal members to this workshop.

Registration is also open to non‐Aboriginal stewards and officers from local unions with sizeable Aboriginal memberships, although of course we encourage those local unions to also send Aboriginal members themselves to the workshop.

See our online registration page for the invitation letter, agenda highlights, workshop information, hotel and travel information and more.
