In June 2014, 15 Next Generation union activists from Cuba, the United States, Mexico, the U.K and Canada met for 10 days in British Columbia for the first-ever Global Youth Exchange, hosted by the United Steelworkers. The first week consisted of an educational component at the District 3 Summer School, where the participants worked in a classroom setting, followed by a practical component that included visits to a mine, a sawmill, provincial politicians and local community activists.

All of the participants left the Global Youth Exchange inspired and ready to continue their activism in their communities.
