Deadly Mills

What happened at two B.C. sawmills that left four people dead and dozens injured? Workers, grieving families and the USW tell their stories in this in-depth report from Global TV's news magazine program 16x9.

Four workers were killed and 42 others were injured in two sawmills explosions that occurred in a three-month period in early 2012.

No charges of any kind were laid following botched investigations of the tragedies. The USW joined families of the victims in demanding a public inquiry, which B.C.'s Liberal government has steadfastly opposed.

Governments must begin using the Criminal Code against employers who put their workers in danger, says USW District 3 Director Stephen Hunt.
