On October 4 across Canada as well as internationally, vigils will take place to honour the memory of missing and murdered Aboriginal women and girls. In 2015, the Native Women’s Association of Canada is issuing the call for the tenth year of Sisters in Spirit vigils.
We are urging USW Women’s Committees and Local Unions to take part in a vigil in your community, or to help organize one. A moment of silence at work, a candlelight ceremony at a community centre, or a rally and/or march calling for a national enquiry and legislative changes—all of these options are powerful and appropriate.
If you organize an event in your community, please use the forms below to register your event with the Native Women’s Association of Canada. NWAC will publicize all events on their web pages (www.nwac.ca and www.october4th.ca).
Steelworkers and their loved ones are among the missing and murdered. This crisis is a union issue. Please help us stop the losses.
