Steelworkers Reach Settlement on Human Rights Complaint in Fernie

Burnaby, B.C. – The United Steelworkers (USW) has reached a settlement with The TDL Group Corp. and one of its former franchisees, 658380 B.C. Ltd., in Fernie, British Columbia.  The USW filed a representative complaint with the BC Human Rights Tribunal on December 13, 2013 on behalf of all workers from the Philippines currently and formerly employed through the Temporary Foreign Worker Program by 658380 B.C. Ltd., doing business as Tim Hortons, in Fernie.  The complaint alleged discrimination in employment.

The USW filed the human rights complaint when the workers from the Philippines came forward with allegations of employment issues with the former franchisee in Fernie, publicly and to the USW local union in the area.

The parties reached a fair resolution to the satisfaction of the parties, including the workers who were employed under the Temporary Foreign Worker Program with the former franchisee in Fernie.
