USW Cares: USW Local 5319 Participates in Community Build

As part of Global Solidarity Week, Global Youth Exchange members from all over the world participated in various initiatives to help their communities.

This year marks the third year that USW Local 5319 has participated in a community-build project. The project is a joint effort by the Women of Steel and NextGen members from the local. There were 20 other community-build projects for Habitat for Humanity in North America, South America and Europe on the same day.

Fifteen Steelworkers joined Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia, assisting in building a home in Spryfield. The Steelworkers crew was in charge of framing the home’s interior. Steelworkers also brought meals and snacks for the day to thank the Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia’s day-to-day volunteers and construction crew.

In addition, USW Local 5319’s bake sale raised $1,000 in donations for Habitat for Humanity Nova Scotia.
