USW Cares: Collective Effort by Halifax Steelworkers

USW Local 5319’s Women of Steel and NextGen committees put in a collective effort for Halifax’s Metro Nonprofit Housing Association.

Amanda Zakhour of USW Local 5319 had been away on a work assignment and had been staying periodically in hotels since June 2016. But that didn’t stop Amanda from completing her Good Works Project, a Leadership course assignment.

While away, she collected all of the shampoo, conditioner, soap and body lotion given to guests daily. A total of four boxes were collected for the Metro Nonprofit Housing Association.

Meanwhile, back at home in Halifax, Women of Steel and NextGen committees posted a shelter donation sign to parallel what Amanda was doing.

Two more boxes of toiletries and feminine products were collected. Clothing, food and coffee were also collected and delivered.
