The Canada Emergency Response Benefit (CERB) has been extended by eight weeks, from 16 to 24 weeks.
The federal government has announced the extension of the CERB for workers who:
- stopped working due to COVID-19 or
- are eligible for Employment Insurance regular or sickness benefits or
- have exhausted their Employment Insurance regular benefits or Employment Insurance fishing benefits between Dec. 29, 2019 and Oct. 3, 2020.
Over the next few weeks, the government will examine “international best practices” to determine any further changes that will be needed, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau said.
