District 6 Steelworkers recognize the National Day of Mourning on April 28th

Today, we mourn for the lives lost in the workplace. It is also an opportunity for Steelworkers across our district and across the country to renew our commitment to fight for the living.

There are still far too many accidents in the workplace which result in death or injury to a worker each year. This is incredibly shameful for a developed country like ours.

This year, recommitting to our efforts to ensure the health and safety of workers in all workplaces is such an important task. We must be vigilant in taking the appropriate measures to prevent death and injury in the workplace. Every death and injury in the workplace is a failure to all workers. Stronger health and safety legislation must be demanded and laws like the Westray Law must be enforced.

As we remember and honour those who have died today, let us not forget to fight for the living.

In Solidarity,

Marty Warren
USW District 6 Director
