Steelworkers Reach Tentative Agreement at ArcelorMittal in Montérégie

CONTRECOEUR, Que. – ArcelorMittal and Syndicat des Métallos (United Steelworkers) Locals 6586, 8060 and 8897 reached a tentative agreement Monday night. The agreement will be presented to union members at meetings to be held over the next few days.

The three union locals had voted 95% in favour of a strike mandate.

“There was very strong mobilization among members. The wave of solidarity among our members was felt at the bargaining table,” Local 6586 President Steve Galibois and union staff representative Guy Gaudette said in a joint statement.

Details of the agreement will not be released prior to the pending union membership meetings. The three union locals represent approximately 800 ArcelorMittal employees in the in Montérégie region.
