Quebec Steelworkers Reach Tentative Agreement With ArcelorMittal Mines

SEPT-ÎLES – The negotiating committee representing 2,500 members of United Steelworkers in Port-Cartier, Fermont and Fire Lake in Quebec reached a tentative agreement on a new collective agreement last night with ArcelorMittal Mines Canada.

Less than a week after contract negotiations suddenly broke off, bargaining resumed yesterday in the presence of mediator Jean Nolin and a tentative deal was reached. The agreement will be submitted to a ratification vote by union members in coming weeks.

No details of the tentative agreement will be released to the media and the union will not be giving interviews on the subject until terms of the agreement are presented to the membership.

The ArcelorMittal Mines workers are members of USW Locals 5778, 6869, 8664, 7401 and 7401-FP.
