PORT-CARTIER and FERMONT, Que. – More than four weeks into a strike at ArcelorMittal operations in Quebec’s North Shore region, a tentative agreement on a new contract has been reached between negotiators for the company and 2,500 members of the United Steelworkers/Syndicat des Métallos.
Details of the tentative agreement will not be made public until the deal is presented to union members and a ratification vote is held. Meetings will be held over the next few days for members of five Steelworkers’ local unions – 5778, 6869, 8664, 7401 and 7401-FP.
Workers at ArcelorMittal operations in Port-Cartier, Fermont and Fire Lake have been on strike since May 10.
